Of all the soldiers to portray in WW2 we have chosen probably one of the most controversial apart from the Soviet NKVD troops. Our reasons for choosing to portray soldiers of the 3rd SS Division "Totenkopf" are varied. They to us were like any other young men of that time caught up in an inferno of ideologies, politics and total war that can not be understood by the every day person on the street post 2000. In order to understand the reasons why young men decided to join such a Division one has to put oneself back into the 1930-40's.

We do, however, fully accept that war crimes were committed by soldiers of the Totenkopf during WW2, although, it's fair to say that war crimes were committed by all sides in WW2. The last of the Totenkopf surrendered to the Americans at the end of the war, they were at once handed to the Soviets were most were executed at once. The ones that survived immediate execution were to spend the rest of their days in the hard labour camps of the post war soviet gulag system. Only a handful ever returned home.

We, therefore, believe that because the Totenkopf played such important roles in the battles on the Eastern Front, and elsewhere, with many of it's soldiers holders of the Knights Cross, they should be remembered in some way as to educate future generations on the wider aspects of WW2.
